At
her sweet husband's prodding, Deb Collins embarked on the world of
watercolor in June of 1988. Russ' many years of experience in the
art and framing business gave him the instinct to see something more
in the graphic design work his new bride worked at daily for one of
Chattanooga, Tennessee's leading ad agencies.
Fate would move the couple
back to Statesboro, GA. In the summer of 1988 Deb began to study watercolor
at Georgia Southern University under artist Dee Jackson. Further study
with Jim Gensheer of Augusta, GA, followed. But it was not until 1990,
under the private instruction of Bea Gay Davis of Millen, GA, that
she found her niche...florals.
The beautiful gardens
of the South provided endless inspiration and Deb's trademark hummingbird
proved to be the crowning touch. Whether an integral part of the
image
or hidden amidst the blooms and branches, her little hummer finds
its way into most everything she does -- not only into her detailed
watercolors, but into the hearts of those who view them. That must
be why when asked to personalize an image she most often closes
with
the simple phrase, "Enjoy."
